The A, B and C Dimension Table

Every size in the three ISO series, from the largest formats down to A10, in millimetres and inches.

The A series begins at A0, 841 × 1189 mm, and steps down by halving the area: A1 is 594 × 841 mm, A2 is 420 × 594 mm, A3 is 297 × 420 mm, A4 is 210 × 297 mm and A5 is 148 × 210 mm. The ladder continues through A6 at 105 × 148 mm, A7 at 74 × 105 mm, A8 at 52 × 74 mm, A9 at 37 × 52 mm and ends at A10, 26 × 37 mm.

The B series bridges the gaps between A sizes. B0 measures 1000 × 1414 mm, and working down the same halving rule gives B1 707 × 1000 mm, B2 500 × 707 mm, B3 353 × 500 mm and B4 at 250 × 353 mm, with smaller B sizes continuing below.

The C series is defined for envelopes. C4 measures 229 × 324 mm and C5 measures 162 × 229 mm; each is cut slightly larger than the A sheet it is meant to carry.

All three series share the √2 : 1 aspect ratio, so the long side of one size always equals the short side of the next size up. That property is what makes the halving rule work across the whole table.

Inch figures below are rounded conversions of the millimetre values; the millimetre numbers are the ones the standard fixes.

  • A series: A0 through A10, halving area at each step
  • B series: B0 through the smaller B sizes, sitting between A sizes
  • C series: envelope sizes named for the A sheet they wrap
  • All three series keep the √2 : 1 aspect ratio
